Those auditioning should have a song prepared. Two male leads and one female lead must tap dance. Bring your tap shoes if you can dance. Director is Bob May; Greg Taylor is music director. When asked about children’s parts, Bob had this to say: “There are two boys in the beginning of the show who play Cosmo and Don as children and they MUST tap dance. They are 8 – 10 years old. I could cast young girls in those parts, too. Or just go with teen boys. And teens can play young adults in the ensemble.” This production is sponsored by W.W. and Anne Jones Charitable Trust.

Those auditioning will sing a song they’ve prepared (accompanist will be provided) and read from the script.
People always ask about parts for children and teens: Dr. Sam says,” We are going to be looking for 6-8 dancers, 3-4 couples these could easily be teens because they will dressed as workmen.”
Bob May: “There are two boys in the beginning of the show who play Cosmo and Don as children and they MUST tap dance. They are 8 – 10 years old. I could cast young girls in those parts, too. Or just go with teen boys. And teens can play young adults in the ensemble.”

The Royal Players will present Kiss Me Kate February 23-26 and March 1-4 at the Royal Theatre in Downtown Benton. Duane Jackson is directing with music direction by Jo Murry.
Kiss me Kate won the first Tony award presented for “Best Musical” in 1949. With music and lyrics by Cole Porter, book by Bella and Samuel Spewack with Lisa Kirk and Harold Lang; Kiss Me Kate is a play within a play. The character Fred is reunited with his ex-wife Lilli to play the leading roles in Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew. In the popular MGM musical, those roles were played by Howard Keel and Kathryn Grayson. Also cast are two former cabaret performers, Lois and Bill. The two couples provide entertainment in their “real lives” as well as those on the stage within a stage. Two gangsters harass Fred in a case of mistaken identity, adding to the mix in this romantic comedy produced with permission of Tams-Witmark Music Library, Inc. Familiar songs from the show include “Brush Up on Your Shakespeare,” “So in Love,” “Too Darn Hot,” and Why Can’t You Behave.”
The production includes actors who have been on stage at the Royal many times as well as some new faces: Frederic C. Graham is played by Harold Dean, Lilli Vanessi is Paige Carpenter, Lois Lane and Bill Calhoun are Justin Pike and Molly Sublett. Rounding out the cast of characters are Greg Blacklaw, Mason Newberry, Erin Martinez, Caroline Simmons, Jeff Miller, Michael Bartholmey, and Mark Burbank. Ensemble members are Anthony McBride, Zack Baker, Christian Taylor, Hannah Baker, Georgeann Burbank, Kathy Barbeire, Melissa Farmer, and Karen Ray.
Duane Jackson is well-known in the area, having just directed The Laramie Project: Ten Years Later at the Weekend Theater.
Times for the Royal production are 7 pm on Thursday through Saturday and 2 pm on Sunday. Theater phone number is 501-315-5483. Tickets may be purchased online at theroyalplayers.com. Adults are $12, seniors $10, and students $5. Theater address is 111 S. Market, Benton.
